NEW YORK/TORONTO
-- Chicago Blackhawks right wing Theoren Fleury has been cleared
to return to play following a period of rehabilitation in the joint
National Hockey League/National Hockey League Players' Association
Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health Program.
On October
8, 2002, Fleury entered an intensive outpatient and follow-up program
and has since been monitored under the care and counseling of the
program doctors, Dr. Dave Lewis on behalf of the NHL and Dr. Brian
Shaw on behalf of the NHLPA. Fleury has participated fully and has
been cooperative in his intensive treatment program. He will now
participate in an intensive aftercare plan monitored by the program
doctors.
The NHL and the NHLPA
implemented the program in 1996 with the primary objectives being
education, treatment and rehabilitation for NHL players and their
families.
